Baseball Recap: Providence Christian Takes a Loss

Providence Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Stanhope Elmore Mustangs. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2019.

Grayson Creel put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Tyler Sharp was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two). John Martin Byrd was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.

Providence Christian now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Stanhope Elmore, they pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Providence Christian will take on Houston Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Stanhope Elmore, they have already played their next match, a 9-8 loss against Auburn on the 22nd.
