Soccer Game Preview: Providence Day vs. Bishop England

The Providence Day Chargers will take on the Bishop England Battling Bishops at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Providence Day sitting on six straight wins and Bishop England on nine.

Providence Day is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Oceanside Collegiate Academy, who was ranked 15th in their home state at the time (Providence Day was ranked second). The Chargers' defense stepped up to hand the Landsharks a 2-0 shutout on Friday. The score was all tied up 0-0 at the break, but Providence Day were the better team in the second half.

Mikayla Pieratt and Abby Goldean scored both of Providence Day's goals, bringing their combined season tally to six goals.

Meanwhile, Bishop England earned a 3-1 victory over May River on Friday.

Providence Day's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-0-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those four games. As for Bishop England, their record now sits at 12-3.

Providence Day took their win against Bishop England in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 7-0 score. Do the Chargers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Battling Bishops turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
