Basketball Game Preview: Kim/Branson Mustangs vs. La Veta Redhawks

Kim/Branson has gone 9-1 against La Veta recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Kim/Branson Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the La Veta Redhawks at 3:00 p.m. Kim/Branson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.4 points per game this season.

Kim/Branson is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Wiley: they outscored them in every quarter. Kim/Branson put the hurt on Wiley with a sharp 74-51 victory on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Kim/Branson's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cameron Rosas, who went 8 for 14 on his way to 19 points and seven steals. That's the most points Rosas has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kolter Cranson, who posted 20 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals.

Meanwhile, La Veta hadn't done well against Walsenburg recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. La Veta managed a 48-42 victory over Walsenburg.

Kim/Branson better keep an eye on Tristan Musgrave. He was instrumental in La Veta's win, going 8 of 15 en route to 16 points and eight boards. Another player making a difference was Isiah Rodriguez, who earned 12 points.

The win got La Veta back to even at 5-5. As for Kim/Branson, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Kim/Branson has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 25.6 boards per game. However, it's not like La Veta struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
