Basketball Game Preview: McDonough Warhawks vs. Hampton Hornets

McDonough has gone a perfect 10-0 against Hampton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The McDonough Warhawks will face off against the Hampton Hornets at 8:30 p.m. McDonough knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 17 matches -- so hopefully Hampton likes a good challenge.

McDonough will head out to face Hampton after giving up their first home loss of the season on Wednesday. McDonough took a 71-57 bruising from Eagle's Landing Christian Academy. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Warhawks came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while the Chargers are ranked 226th).

Despite the defeat, McDonough got top-tier performance from Zion Greene, who dropped a double-double with 22 points and 11 boards. Greene's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Jaelen Kerbo, who posted 12 points.

Even though they lost, McDonough smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Hampton waltzed into their match on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 61-53 victory over the Wildcats.

Hampton found their leader in sophomore C J Geiger, who earned 30 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Geiger has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Asa Parker, who had nine points.

McDonough's loss dropped their record down to 20-5. As for Hampton, they now have a winning record of 14-13.

McDonough beat Hampton 58-50 when the teams last played back in January. Does McDonough have another victory up their sleeve, or will Hampton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
