Basketball Recap: Purnell Swett Comes Up Short

Purnell Swett was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 63-59 heartbreaker at the hands of the Gray's Creek Bears. The Rams were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bears earlier this season, when they won 62-56.

It was another big night for Ezekiel Reed, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 18 boards for Gray's Creek. Those 22 points gave Reed a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Quion Andrews, who posted 17 points and eight rebounds.

Purnell Swett's loss dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Gray's Creek, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Purnell Swett will challenge Scotland at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. That match will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Jerrison Dixon and Collin Sampson. As for Gray's Creek, they will face off against Lumberton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lumberton will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Gray's Creek surely won't give up without a fight.
