Recap: Monroe Redhawks vs. Anson Bearcats
The third road game was the charm for the Monroe Redhawks, as they earned their first road win of the season. They came out on top against Anson by a score of 64-57 on Wednesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Monroe got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Bryson Simpkins out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Simpkins has scored all season. Jordan Young was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
When it comes to explaining why Anson lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jayden Little. Despite the final result, he scored 29 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That was a full 50.9% of Anson's points, marking the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Ryan Robinson, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Monroe's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-3. As for Anson, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 9-8.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Piedmont the next time they take the court. Anson will head out to face Piedmont at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Monroe will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
