Softball Recap: Birmingham Drops Highest Score of Season Against Cleveland

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Birmingham). They blew past the Cleveland Cavaliers 13-3 on Friday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Patriots with their most commanding win of the season.

Annabella Venegas tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. She also put up two walks, which were her first of the season.

At the plate, Melanie Mora was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bella Gonzalez, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4.

Birmingham always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win made it two in a row for Birmingham and bumps their season record up to 4-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Cleveland, they dropped their record down to 2-12 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Coincidentally, Birmingham and Cleveland will both be playing Chatsworth the next time they take the field. The Cavaliers will head out to face the Chancellors at 3:00 p.m. on the 21st, while the Patriots will host them at 3:00 p.m. on the 23rd.
