Basketball Recap: Azziza Flowers and Kennedy Myers Secure Win for Statesboro

Statesboro's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They walked away with a 48-38 win over the South Effingham Mustangs. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 54-36 back in January.

Statesboro was led to victory by Kennedy Myers and Azziza Flowers. Myers dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards, while Flowers dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Gerziya Haggray was another key player, putting up 11 points and five assists.

Statesboro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, South Effingham still got an impressive performance from Hayden Johanson, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. That was a full 42.1% of South Effingham's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kaylan Hamilton, who scored 12 points.

With the victory, Statesboro broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-11. As for South Effingham, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season.

Statesboro wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 66-45 win against Swainsboro on the 1st. As for South Effingham, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-8 defeat against Bradwell Institute on the 31st.
