Softball Recap: Dallas County Hornets vs. Verbena Red Devils
Dallas County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They wound up on the wrong side of a rough 13-1 walloping at the hands of the Verbena Red Devils.
LiDonna Woods was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and ten unearned) runs off five hits. Woods was even better at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a home run and a stolen base.
Woods wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nakiya Stubbs, who went 1-for-3 with a triple.
Like Dallas County, Verbena also got a great game from a two-way player: Jaycee Quinn. She struck out 19 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Quinn was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Maya Schuffert was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5. Another player making a difference was Kiara Ray, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.
Dallas County's defeat dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Verbena, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.
Dallas County will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Keith at 5:00 p.m. As for Verbena, they will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Billingsley at 5:00 p.m. One thing working in Billingsley's favor is that they have posted big run totals in their last four matches.
