Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Blue Cougars vs. Oxford Hills Vikings

Mt. Blue is 1-9 against Oxford Hills since May of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

On Monday, Mt. Blue needed a bit of extra time to put away Mount Abram. They won by a run and slipped past the Roadrunners 4-3. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Roadrunners: they've now won three in a row.

Aiden Wilkins looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cameron Norton, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, Oxford Hills faced Fryeburg in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Vikings sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Raiders.

Cassius Thibeault looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Cam Pulkkinen was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Oxford Hills' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-3 when he doesn't). Carter Holbrook also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Oxford Hills' record now sits at 2-4. As for Mt. Blue, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
