Baseball Game Preview: Lakewood Cougars vs. Squalicum Storm

The Lakewood Cougars will head out to take on the Squalicum Storm at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lakewood will be strutting in after a win while Squalicum will be coming in after a defeat.

Lakewood will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Mt. Baker on Wednesday. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 20-0 margin over the Mountaineers. The Cougars have beaten the Mountaineers the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Mountaineers has come to flipping the script.

Dylan Wolfe made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Wolfe was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Brayden McAllister was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Jones, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI and one run.

Lakewood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Squalicum was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 10-0 to Blaine.

Lakewood's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 4-9. As for Squalicum, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-11.

Lakewood took their win against Squalicum in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
