Basketball Recap: Canby Beats Putnam for Their Third Straight Win

Canby had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They managed a 57-51 victory over the Putnam Kingsmen. For the Cougars, this counts as revenge for the 64-62 win the Kingsmen walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Canby to victory, but perhaps none more so than Max Taggart, who went 7 for 9 en route to 14 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Taggart a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Lawson, who went 8 of 13 on his way to 16 points and five rebounds.

Canby smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Canby's record is now 9-6. As for Putnam, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.

Canby wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 68-57 loss against Wilsonville on the 23rd. Putnam has also already played their next game, a 55-52 victory against Hood River Valley on the 24th.
