Hollins is 9-1 against Largo since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. Hollins is taking a road trip to take on Largo at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Hollins' favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three games.
Last Monday, Hollins made easy work of Clearwater Central Catholic and carried off a 13-3 victory. The Royals haven't had any issues with the Marauders recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Hailey Mercado was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Westerfield, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Hollins was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .538. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .462 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Largo unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of Dunedin by a score of 5-3.
Laila Weber spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 11 Ks.
On the hitting side, Mia Kabakov was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
Hollins now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Largo, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hollins hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .392. However, it's not like Largo struggles in that department as they've averaged .328. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hollins might still be hurting after the 12-6 defeat they got from Largo in their previous meeting back in February. Can Hollins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
