Softball Recap: Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Comes Up Short

After flying high against Watertown-Mayer last Thursday, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted came back down to earth. The Lakers fell 9-6 to the New London-Spicer Wildcats on Tuesday. The Lakers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 10-3.

Breckyn Jonell was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ari Keating, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.

Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted dropped their record down to 5-7 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for New London-Spicer, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 8-3.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted is set to take on their familiar foe Litchfield at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, New London-Spicer will square off against rival Annandale at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
