Basketball Recap: Centennial's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak on the Road

It was a good run, but Centennial unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 70-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of Somerset Prep. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Thursday (57), the Eagles still had to take the loss.

Centennial lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Waniya Fortner, who posted 19 points. Those 19 points gave Fortner a new career-high. Jailyn Williams was another key player, dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.

Gabrielle King continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Somerset Prep, as she made all 11 shots she took to post 27 points along with six boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Chardae Rumph, who made all 7 shots she took for 17 points and five assists.

Centennial's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-8. As for Somerset Prep, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 16-9.

Centennial wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 62-61 win against Palm Beach Gardens on the 29th. As for Somerset Prep, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Chaminade-Madonna at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th. One thing working in Somerset Prep's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
