Basketball Recap: Plainfield East Comes Up Short

Plainfield East lost against Romeoville back in February and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Plainfield East Bengals fell to the Romeoville Spartans 53-47.

Despite the defeat, Plainfield East saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Emma Rodgers dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten blocks. Those ten blocks gave Rodgers a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna Thompson, who posted 13 points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Plainfield East smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Kazaria Smith continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Romeoville, dropping a double-double on 37 points and ten boards. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least a third of Romeoville's points. Oluwatunmise Adebayo was another key player, putting up eight points and 12 rebounds.

Plainfield East dropped their record down to 2-9 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Romeoville, they moved to 3-6 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Plainfield East and Bolingbrook will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Romeoville, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 80-43 victory against Thornwood on the 18th.
