Baseball Recap: Avon Takes a Loss

Avon dropped their record down to 16-9 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 10-0 to the Zionsville Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, with their most recent loss being a 9-1 defeat on Wednesday.

As for Zionsville, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 16-7. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.

For Zionsville's part, the result came thanks to Davis Moore's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up six Ks. Moore has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tyler Hughes, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Myles Poulin also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Avon and Zionsville should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Orioles (ranked 13th) will meet Columbus North (ranked 97th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Zionsville will take on Guerin Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (11 vs. 80).
