Recap: Southeast Pirates vs. Newton Falls Tigers
The Southeast Pirates struggled with assists on Saturday (the Newton Falls Tigers had 13 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Southeast took a 44-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Newton Falls. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Southeast has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Southeast still got an impressive performance from Garrett Sprutte, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 68.6% of Southeast's points, marking the tenth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
It was another big night for Jabriel Rufai, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds for Newton Falls. Rufai is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last three games he's played. Cameron Huff was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Southeast's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-4. As for Newton Falls, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-4.
Southeast and Mogadore will face off at 6:45 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Mogadore is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games. As for Newton Falls, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Champion at 7:00 p.m. Champion has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
