Basketball Recap: Jayden Bailey's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mingo Central over James Monroe

Mingo Central lost against James Monroe back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Mingo Central Miners took a 53-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the James Monroe Mavericks. The Miners have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mingo Central's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayden Bailey, who posted 12 points and eight rebounds. That's the most points Bailey has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Addie Smith, who earned 14 points.

James Monroe's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maggie Boroski, who scored 15 points and six steals. The contest was Boroski's fifth in a row with at least 15 points. Mya Dunlap was another key player, going 6-for-14 to rack up 15 points along with five boards and five steals.

Mingo Central's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for James Monroe, their victory bumped their record up to 16-3.

Mingo Central has already played their next game (against Summers County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for James Monroe, they will square off against Jefferson Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
