Basketball Game Preview: Jefferson Mustangs vs. Burbank Bulldogs

Jefferson and Burbank are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Jefferson Mustangs will welcome the Burbank Bulldogs at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Jefferson is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Highlands on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Jefferson came up short against Highlands, falling 47-26. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Owls recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Meanwhile, Burbank blew past Lanier, posting an 88-33 win. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 matches by 23 points or more this season.

Burbank's win came from a few key players Jefferson will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Zara?Nique Nealy, who dropped a triple-double on 25 points, ten rebounds, and 13 steals. Her evening made it eight games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nyila Botello, who went 9 of 17 on her way to 23 points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Burbank smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in ten consecutive contests.

Burbank has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a massive bump to their 20-12 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 38.8 points. As for Jefferson, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-21.
