Basketball Recap: King Comes Up Short

King lost against Corpus Christi Moody back in November and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The King Mustangs were dealt a 77-28 defeat at the hands of the Corpus Christi Moody Trojans. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 944th, while the Trojans are ranked 292nd).

King's loss came despite strong showings from Jassidy Jenkins and Charis Peninger. Jenkins posted eight points and eight boards, while Peninger earned no points and five rebounds.

Shantaye Hazel was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a triple-double on 14 points, 12 rebounds, and nine steals for Corpus Christi Moody. Those nine steals gave Hazel a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aleena Olivo, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 16 points.

King dropped their record down to 5-10 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Corpus Christi Moody, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.

King wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 46-27 defeat against Navarro on the 5th. As for Corpus Christi Moody, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-33 loss against Ellison on the 5th.
