Softball Recap: Eastern Wayne Gets the Win

Eastern Wayne's game on Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Douglas Byrd Eagles a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Mallory Reed was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Madaline Womack was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Anderson, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Eastern Wayne's win bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Douglas Byrd, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-10.

Looking ahead, Eastern Wayne will be playing at home against North Pitt at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 18.12 runs per game on average), something the Warriors will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Douglas Byrd, they are taking a road trip to square off against St. Pauls at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
