Baseball Recap: Haverling Comes Up Short

Haverling had lost four straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 6-9 to make it five. They fell 8-4 to the Geneseo Blue Devils. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Rams of the 3-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Dylan Wenban was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.

As for Geneseo, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.1 runs on average over those games.

On Geneseo's side, Phillip Dotterweich made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Dotterweich has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Oren Ray was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Luke Davis, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI.

Coming up, Haverling will face off against Keshequa at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rams' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season. As for Geneseo, they are on the road again on Tuesday to play Caledonia-Mumford at 4:30 p.m.
