Softball Game Preview: Rome Free Academy Black Knights vs. New Hartford Spartans

Rome Free Academy is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Monday. They will host the New Hartford Spartans at 4:30 p.m.

Rome Free Academy came up short against Guilderland on Sunday, falling 11-2. The Black Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Rome Free Academy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kenidee Campbell, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, New Hartford gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 19-4 margin over Proctor. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Ruby Gehringer made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Gehringer was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Addie Way was a standout: she scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Jenna Glenn, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

Rome Free Academy now has a losing record of 1-2. As for New Hartford, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-0.

Rome Free Academy might still be hurting after the 13-3 loss they got from New Hartford in their previous matchup back in May of 2024.
