Softball Recap: Del Oro Comes Up Short

If Del Oro was riding high fresh off their 16-0 takedown of Esperanza on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Golden Eagles fell just short of the Central Catholic Raiders by a score of 11-10 on Friday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Golden Eagles, who until this game were averaging 2.53 runs allowed.

Avyn Brower was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Caelyn Campos was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Del Oro's loss dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Central Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.

Del Oro will take on Poly in a tournament on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Golden Eagles 2.5, the Bears 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Central Catholic will be paying especially close attention to Del Oro's matchup: after Del Oro faces off against Poly, they'll take on Central Catholic again at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
