Basketball Game Preview: Riverton Wolverines vs. Evanston Devils

The Riverton Wolverines will face off against the Evanston Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Last Saturday, Riverton came up short against Star Valley and fell 57-47. The Wolverines have struggled against the Braves recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Riverton got top-tier performance from Malachi Smith, who went 10 of 19 en route to 28 points along with eight boards and five blocks. Smith continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played.

Meanwhile, Evanston earned a 61-52 win over Jackson Hole on Saturday. Given the Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' Wyoming basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while the Broncs are ranked 62nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Evanston has also been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for Riverton, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-9.

Riverton was able to grind out a solid victory over Evanston in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, winning 59-50. Does Riverton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Evanston turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
