Softball Game Preview: Slocomb Red Tops vs. Arnold Marlins

The Slocomb Red Tops will be taking part in a tournament against the Arnold Marlins at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

Providence Christian hit Slocomb with a four-run sixth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Red Tops fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 9-8. The Red Tops have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Molly Mcgowan was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Rylee Knowles, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Arnold had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 1-0 W against the Braves. The Marlins' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three matchups.

Not much got past Bre Clark, who gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks to keep Walton off the board. Clark has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

Slocomb's defeat dropped their record down to 11-16-1. As for Arnold, their win bumped their record up to 16-5.
