Softball Game Preview: Lucas Cubs vs. Crestview Cougars

The Lucas Cubs are taking a road trip to square off against the Crestview Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Lucas sitting on three straight wins and Crestview on 11.

Lucas had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Crestline on Monday. The Cubs put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 11-1 victory. 11 seems to be a good number for the Cubs as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Maddie Boyer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Arya Ohm, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Brown, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Meanwhile, Crestview sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over Mapleton on Wednesday.

Crestview pushed their record up to 15-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Lucas, their record now sits at 6-7.

Lucas suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Crestview in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Cubs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
