Softball Recap: Kermit Wins Going Away Against Tornillo

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Alpine, Kermit was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They put the hurt on the Tornillo Coyotes with a sharp 15-2 victory. The Yellow Jackets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by seven runs or more this season.

Kermit got a big performance out of Natalie Gomez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1. Iris Lujan was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Kermit always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. They are 9-3 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Kermit has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-10 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 8.57 strikeouts in those games compared to only 3.77 in the others. Tornillo is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.

Coincidentally, Kermit and Tornillo will both be playing Anthony the next time they take the field. Tornillo will host Anthony at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, while Kermit will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
