Eastwood and Eastlake are an even 3-3 against one another since October of 2018, but not for long. The Troopers will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Eastlake will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Eastwood extended their winning streak to four on Thursday. The Troopers breezed past Socorro to the tune of 49-13. That 36 point margin sets a new team best for the Troopers this season.
Eastwood's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kingston Jeffries, who threw for 216 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.7% of his passes, and also rushed for 41 yards. Michael Torres was Jeffries' top target, picking up 131 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Eastwood was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 212 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 212 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.
Eastwood didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Matthew Yarbrough and Noah Williams. Another thorn in Socorro's side was Zacary Adams, who made 13 total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Eastlake didn't have too much trouble with Montwood on Friday as they won 61-47.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Julian Williams and Damian Briano. Williams had a great game and threw for 296 yards and four touchdowns while completing 86.4% of his passes. Meanwhile, Briano was balling out in the loss, throwing for 478 yards and four TDs, while also rushing for 78 yards and a pair of scores.
Eastwood's win bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Eastlake, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Friday's contest will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Jeffries and Williams. Jeffries just won't slow down this season and has thrown 10 touchdowns while averaging 162 passing yards per game. Williams has been a dominant force too and has thrown 13 touchdowns while averaging 238 passing yards per game.
Eastwood suffered a grim 49-28 defeat to Eastlake in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Troopers, Steven Galindo (who rushed for 241 yards and four scores while picking up 10.0 yards per carry, and also picked up 30 receiving yards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
