Basketball Recap: El Paso Takes a Loss

El Paso was the 38-36 winner over Canutillo when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The El Paso Tigers fell to the Canutillo Eagles 28-23. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, El Paso saw an underclassman step up: freshman Eva Guevara posted seven points.

Even though they lost, El Paso smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since the start of last season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Canutillo to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alani Silvas, who earned two points and three steals.

El Paso's defeat dropped their record down to 7-20. As for Canutillo, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-13.

El Paso and Canutillo could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. El Paso will take on Chapin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday down 602 places (1028 vs. 426). Similarly, Canutillo (ranked 755th) will meet Burges (ranked 338th) at 7:30 p.m. on January 24th.
