Basketball Recap: Byers Picks Up Seventh Straight Win at Home

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Byers's strategy against Falkner on Tuesday. The Byers Lions walked away with a 48-39 victory over the Falkner Eagles. This was a revenge game for the Lions: when they faced off against the Eagles back in December of 2024, they had to take a 54-52 defeat.

Loss or not, Falkner got some senior leadership from Chris Nunley and Elijah Mauney. Nunley posted 20 points and three steals, while Mauney went 6 of 13 en route to 14 points and eight boards. That was a full 35.9% of Falkner's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's scored more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Wooley, who had three points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Byers' win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-11. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.6 points per game. As for Falkner, they now have a losing record at 9-10.

Byers will face off against Horn Lake at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Horn Lake will roll in looking for their 14th straight victory, something Byers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Falkner, they will square off against Thrasher at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Falkner is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.9 points per game this season.
