Basketball Recap: Harlan Takes a Loss

Harlan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were outmatched by the Christian Fenger Academy Titans and fell 79-35. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 580th, while the Titans are ranked 85th).

Several Falcons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Derion Pope, who posted eight points. Another player making a difference was Dashaun Gafford, who scored six points.

Harlan's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Christian Fenger Academy, their win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1.

Harlan will host South Shore International at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Harlan is facing South Shore International at the right time seeing as South Shore International is stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Christian Fenger Academy, they will take on KIPP Atlanta Collegiate in a tournament on Friday. One thing working in KIPP Atlanta Collegiate's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
