Why it's big: Lexington aspires to win its first state championship in 65 years, but must conquer a Northwestern team trying for its fifth crown since 1989.

Lexington (13-1) reached Saturday night's Class 4A/Division II final by stunning defending state champion and then-No. 25 Spartanburg. Christian Kinsley booted an 18-yard field goal in the closing seconds to secure the Wildcats' 38-35 victory.

Northwestern (12-1) extended its winning streak to 12 games with a 30-22 win against Nation Ford. Junior running back Jerry Howard led the Trojans with a career-high 276 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Names to watch: Lexington running back Slade Carroll surpassed the 2,000-yards rushing mark for the season against Spartanburg. The 5-foot-10, 205-pound senior has over 3,600 yards for his career.

Northwestern's Gage Moloney will likely finish third in South Carolina in passing yardage this season. The 6-2, 215-pound junior has thrown for 3,694 yards with 42 touchdowns and only four interceptions.
