Recap: Meadville Eagles vs. St. Joseph Christian Lions
The Meadville Eagles pushed their score all the way to 59 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of St. Joseph Christian by a score of 62-59. While losing is never fun, Meadville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 302nd, while St. Joseph Christian is ranked 93rd).
Meadville's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Mason Dennis, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Gauge Shiflett who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds. Shiflett has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times he's played. Donivan Schreckhise was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with nine rebounds.
Meadville's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 4-6. As for St. Joseph Christian, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 11-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Meadville's road trip will continue as they head out to face South Shelby at 4:30 p.m. on January 2, 2024. As for St. Joseph Christian, they will challenge Albany at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
