Baseball Game Preview: Cornerstone Christian Cyclones vs. Tremont Turks

The Cornerstone Christian Cyclones will take on the Tremont Turks at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Cornerstone Christian has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with seven straight losses, while Tremont will come in with five straight wins.

Cornerstone Christian lost 8-2 to Bloomington Central Catholic on Tuesday.

Josh Kursell put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run.

Kursell wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Hopt, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was Hopt's first of the season.

Meanwhile, while Tremont put up plenty of runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley. The Turks were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over the Falcons. The Turks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matches by six runs or more this season.

Tremont's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Cornerstone Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.

Cornerstone Christian skirted past Tremont 7-5 in their previous meeting back in April of 2021. Will the Cyclones repeat their success, or do the Turks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
