Pine View is a perfect 4-0 against Desert Hills since March of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Panthers will challenge the Thunder at 7:00 p.m.
Pine View is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Crimson Cliffs just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 3-2. While the Panthers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Mustangs 25-20 in the first set.
Pine View started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 20-25, 19-25, 25-16, 25-19, 15-11.
Meanwhile, Desert Hills got the win against Dixie on Tuesday by a conclusive 3-0. The victory continues a trend for the Thunder in their matchups with the Flyers: they've now won four in a row.
Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-5, 25-16, 25-15.
Desert Hills' win came from a few key players Pine View will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jordan Schudde, who had 16 assists and three aces. That's the most aces he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of James Candland, who had 15 assists and three aces.
Desert Hills' win bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Pine View, their loss dropped their record down to 11-6.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's match: Pine View has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.5 aces per game. However, it's not like Desert Hills struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.4 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Pine View beat Desert Hills 3-1 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
