Baseball Game Preview: Bear River Bruins vs. Rosemont Wolverines

Bear River and Rosemont are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2017, but likely not for long. The Bear River Bruins will face off against the Rosemont Wolverines at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Bear River proved they can win big on Friday (they won by seven) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past East Nicolaus 4-2.

Cooper Berry made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit over four innings pitched. Berry was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cooper Lunsford, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Rosemont made easy work of El Camino on Tuesday and carried off an 11-1 victory.

Like Bear River, Rosemont also got a great game from a two-way player: Nathan Coates. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and only one walk). Coates has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Logan Wohlers was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three). Another player making a difference was Gavin Terry, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.

Bear River's record is now 2-0. As for Rosemont, their record is now 3-1.

Bear River beat Rosemont 6-1 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bear River since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
