Baseball Recap: Gateway Comes Up Short

Gateway dropped their record down to 7-5 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Westminster Wolves by a score of 10-9. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Olympians of the 20-5 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2022.

Mervin Loya made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jakob Petersen, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one triple.

As for Westminster, their win bumped their record up to 9-6. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the game before.

On Westminster's side, Michael Davidson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Davidson has become a key player for the Wolves: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Luis Mujica, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gateway will square off against Adams City at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Olympians' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season. As for Westminster, they will head out to challenge Mountain Range at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolves are facing the Mustangs at the right time seeing as the Mustangs are stuck on a 12-game losing streak.
