Softball Recap: Rio Mesa Comes Up Short

Rio Mesa was the 10-1 winner over Ventura when they last played one another back in April of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Spartans fell 4-1 to the Cougars on Tuesday.

Analia Lopez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

Rio Mesa's defeat dropped their record down to 14-7. As for Ventura, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.

Rio Mesa will head out on the road to challenge Camarillo at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Ventura will be paying especially close attention to the Spartans' contest: after the Spartans face off against the Scorpions, they'll take on Ventura again at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
