Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chino Valley). Everything went their way against the Odyssey Institute Minotaur on Monday as Chino Valley made off with an 18-1 victory. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Minotaur recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Kinsey Murphy made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Rebecca Sanders was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Maleah Garcia was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.
Chino Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
The victory got Chino Valley back to even at 7-7. As for Odyssey Institute, they dropped their record down to 2-8 with the loss, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.
