Madison and Greenfield are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Madison Mustangs will square off against the Greenfield Yellowjackets at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Madison will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating Jackson North Side, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Madison walked away with a 7-3 win over Jackson North Side on Tuesday.
Garrett Clark was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Clark was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Those hits marked the first that he got this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dylan Stranak, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Nicolas Udovich was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, everything went Greenfield's way against Gleason on Tuesday as Greenfield made off with a 9-2 victory. With that win, the Yellowjackets brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Landon Clark was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Edwards, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple and two RBI.
Greenfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gleason only posted an OBP of .148.
The victory made it two in a row for Greenfield and bumps their season record up to 3-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9 runs. As for Madison, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Madison has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Greenfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Madison couldn't quite get it done against Greenfield when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-1. Can Madison avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
