Basketball Recap: Edinburg North Cougars vs. Edinburg Bobcats
It was a proper cat-fight when Edinburg North took on Edinburg on Tuesday. The Edinburg North Cougars were dealt a 66-30 defeat at the hands of the Edinburg Bobcats. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 56-54 back in January.
Edinburg North's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Yaneth Salinas, who posted 12 points and five boards. Salinas is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Josselyn Quintanilla was another key player, putting up eight points and ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Edinburg North smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. This was only their 18th loss (out of 31 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Arianee Salazar was a one-woman wrecking crew for Edinburg as she shot 4-for-6 from deep and almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine steals. That's the most points Salazar has posted since back in November of 2024. Braelynn De La Garza also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.
Edinburg North's defeat dropped their record down to 14-21. As for Edinburg, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a massive bump to their 21-14 record this season.
As of now, neither Edinburg North nor Edinburg have any future games scheduled.
