Softball Game Preview: Lynbrook Vikings vs. Fremont Firebirds

Lynbrook is 1-9 against Fremont since May of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Vikings are taking a road trip to take on the Firebirds at 4:00 p.m. Lynbrook has given up an average of 16.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Lynbrook fell victim to Saratoga and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 16-0 to the Falcons. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Vikings' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Fremont never got on the board in their matchup on Monday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against MacDonald on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Condor with a sharp 15-2 victory.

Charlene Hiek made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Fremont got a massive performance out of Natalie Kim, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, four runs, and two stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases Kim has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jiyah Caban, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Fremont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Fremont's record now sits at 4-10. As for Lynbrook, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-13.

Lynbrook might still be hurting after the 21-1 defeat they got from Fremont in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
