Basketball Recap: Colorado Academy Extends Winning Streak to Five

Colorado Academy had won four straight games and Clyde Love did his part to make it five on Friday. The Colorado Academy Mustangs came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 67-62 W against the Coal Ridge Titans which was due in part to Love, who shot 63% from the field to rack up 29 points. The contest was his sixth in a row with at least 15 points.

The team also got some help courtesy of James Claypool, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten boards. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in each of the last four games he's played.

Despite the loss, Coal Ridge still got an impressive performance from Ben Simons, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds. Simons has become a key player for Coal Ridge: the team is 16-2 when he posts at least ten boards, but 4-5 otherwise. Gio Ervin was another key player, going 6-for-11 en route to 14 points and six rebounds.

Colorado Academy's victory bumped their record up to 18-9. As for Coal Ridge, they moved to 20-7 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Colorado Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 71-54 loss against Kent Denver on the 15th. Coal Ridge does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
