Louis E. Dieruff hasn't had much luck against Emmaus recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Huskies will head out on the road to challenge the Hornets at 4:00 p.m. Louis E. Dieruff will be strutting in after a victory while Emmaus will be coming in after a loss.
Louis E. Dieruff is headed into the game having just posted their closest win since April 25, 2024 on Tuesday. They came out on top against William Allen by a score of 4-2 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The game was the first time the Huskies have beaten the Canaries on their field since April 6, 2021.
Jean Varela was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. Varela was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Bryan Dejesus was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-2. Frawvely Peralta also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Emmaus unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of Liberty by a score of 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Hornets have suffered since March 25, 2024.
Emmaus also got a good showing from Ryan Hummell, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hummell has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Josh Diaz was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Bryan Kain was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI.
Louis E. Dieruff's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Emmaus, they suffered their first road loss, dropping their record down to 4-2.
Louis E. Dieruff suffered a grim 15-1 defeat to Emmaus in their previous matchup back in March of 2023. Can the Huskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
