Football Game Preview: Carterville Lions vs. Murphysboro Red Devils + How To Watch

The Carterville Lions will venture away from home to take on the Murphysboro Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Carterville will come into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.

Carterville is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Massac County 50-7 on Friday. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by 20 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Jonathan Miller, who rushed for 142 yards and a pair of TDs on only eight carries. Miller is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 118 every time he's taken the field this season.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Carterville proved: they limited Massac County to a paltry 0.8 yards per carry. The Lions didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 13.7.

Carterville didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jack Dodson and Drake Capie.

Meanwhile, Murphysboro strolled past Harrisburg with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 40-21. The Red Devils haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Murphysboro now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Carterville, their win bumped their record up to 7-0.

Carterville came out on top in a nail-biter against Murphysboro in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, sneaking past 28-25. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
