Softball Recap: Hoggard Comes Up Short

Hoggard has relied on a stalwart pitcher averaging four runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They fell 11-8 to the Laney Buccaneers. The Vikings have struggled against the Buccaneers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meetings.

Alyssa Norris was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Addison Wilson also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.

Hoggard suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 4-3. As for Laney, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-2.

Hoggard and Laney should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Hoggard will take on Ashley at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday up 222 places (74 vs. 296). Hoggard will stroll in with a four game home winning streak (dating back to last season), but they should still watch out: the last time they lost at home was their April 23 matchup with Laney. Similarly, Laney (ranked 33rd) will meet North Brunswick (ranked 104th) at 6:30 p.m. on March 28th. Hoggard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
