Basketball Recap: Spencer Wynsma Key Part of a Team Effort in Hawks Win

Hebron won the last time they faced Wheeler and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Hebron Hawks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 53-51 victory over the Wheeler Bearcats.

Hebron's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Spencer Wynsma led the charge by going 8 of 15 on his way to 22 points and six rebounds. The contest was Wynsma's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Spencer Spinks was another key player, putting up eight points and six boards.

Despite the loss, Wheeler still got an impressive performance from Carter Blane, who went 6 for 11 en route to 17 points and five rebounds. Blane continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyne Vettickal, who posted nine points.

Hebron's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-5. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Wheeler, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-5.

Hebron has already played their next matchup (against Rensselaer Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Wheeler will host Hammond Bishop Noll at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hammond Bishop Noll knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Wheeler likes a good challenge.
