Basketball Recap: Cobi Posas' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Roosevelt over Edison

Roosevelt suffered their closest defeat since January 3, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Edison Tigers by a score of 76-73. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Rough Riders came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 247th, while the Tigers are ranked 1005th).

Roosevelt's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cobi Posas, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 20 boards. Those 20 rebounds gave Posas a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Terrell Sutherland, who went 8 of 13 on his way to 22 points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Roosevelt smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in nine consecutive games.

Roosevelt's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 15-9. As for Edison, the win snapped their losing streak at nine games and leaves them with a 4-20 record.

Roosevelt will challenge Fresno at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Roosevelt's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 14 contests. As for Edison, they will face off against Sanger at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Edison knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Sanger likes a good challenge.
